World Concerto – Bass Trombone & Wind Band

Description

World Concerto is a journey around the world of music styles and different moods.  But that’s only one side of the coin.
It’s also a journey of another kind.  World Concerto is about the way I experience the world, the earth.  Looking for a form to shape my ideas in, I thought of a piece in the classical concerto form because there are only a few concertos for bass trombone and orchestra (or wind band).
The first part begins very modestly.  It’s very intimate; the world you discover when you are born.
The world is enormous, although you don’t realize that when you’re little.  But it’s a feeling that only lasts a minute.

After that the world really opens up and shows itself to you.  A kind of “wow” feeling that makes you want to explore the world.  The second part is in a lyrical mood.  It’s about the beauty of the earth and nature.

The third parts is about human beings.  The march rhythms show their journey of life and the way they inhabit the earth.  During this part, themes of the first and second parts are “reconciled” to let the piece end in a “great wish” of humanity.

Mankind living in harmony with life, earth, nature and each other.
