Description
The Garden of Heavenly Delights was written for the Southeast Trombone Symposium and the Schwob School of Music at Columbus State University.
It was premiered at the International Trombone Festival 2021 in Columbus.
Soloists were Colin William (NY Phil), Nathan Zgonc (Atlanta Symphony), George Curran (NY Phil)
The piece is based on the famous painting “The Garden of Earthly Delights” by Hieronymus Bosch.
As the triptych of the painting, Steven Verhelst has created 3 movements in this piece.
Heaven, Earth and Hell.
All movements represent together the Garden of Heavenly Delights.
This magical piece for 3 soloist and orchestra brings out the trombone in it’s purest form.
It’s challenging, beautiful, tempting and dangerous at the same time.
